I hope there's people out there still interested in the progress of this game. Smile

I should have a second beta version completed for my testers in about a week. So far I have:

-14 levels mapped

-2 new enemies added

-2 new weapons

-And many other surprises!

I'm looking at getting this released early December/Late November at the earliest.

Also, I am curious. Did anyone, aside from Gerolf, see the Beyond the Grave trailer?

As always, feedback is appreciated! And many thanks to those who offered to help me! Beer

I've seen it, it looks quite impressive. I especially like the graphic for that small wall at 0:30, it has a depth to it that is quite hard to achieve with such a directional sprite. Well done trailer! Smile

I saw it myself, and I was pleased with it; this mod seems to have a pretty solid presentation, and that's a critical element in any good game. Smile

I'm not trying to belittle ThunderEnema or nothing but I made that wall originally and placed it in Insanitarium, only difference is it's red in that mod. Open up ChaosEdit, check out sprite 470/476 and you'll see it.

Like I said, I'm not belittling ThunderEnema, I'm actually quite happy he wanted to use my graphics for his project. Smile

@Soldat555: Looks like you beat me to crediting yourself for the wall. Smile You've been a great help to me Josh--the trailer, the advice and the graphics--I can't thank you enough. As someone new to this scene, I was afraid of how my first project would be received and didn't think anyone would help me out since I haven't "proven" myself yet.

@PerScn: That's great to hear. Knowing that people are interested in my project's development keeps me motivated. I like to think I am doing this game for more than just my own amusement. Smile

To release a demo or not to release the demo? That's a question I've been pondering. On one hand, I would like to release a demo just to get some general feedback from a wider audience. However, on the other hand, I want to keep BTG fresh and do not want to spoil any surprises.

I am curious to gain feedback on this from you veteran wolfers out there. What are your general thoughts on demos?

Also, for my beta testers out there reading this, the second beta-release has been postponed to the middle of November. Both work and life have been really busy for me, so unfortunately I have not been able to dedicate as much time to my game as I would like. I'm looking at officially release this thing by the end of this year, but don't quote me on that. Sad

As a side note, I would like to thank Majik Monkee for reworking the hud face frames for me! As you can see below, he did not an awesome job! Beer

I'm not really a big fan of game demos, unless the author has already made clear that the game is already finished, and there are no plans to expand the game. An exception would be if you're releasing the demo for an open-source project like mine, and the demo is used simply to showcase the code's features.

My personal opinion: When I released demos it was to show a taste of things to come, to show I'm not being overly selfish, lazy, by keeping the game in the dark and not showing significant progress save for the screenshots revealing the same stuff over and over again. However with this said, I believe my demos haven't been true demos of the final release but more like betas for people to try out; they showed progress, some levels, but never really captured the feel of the full version as well, surprises SHOULD come in the full version, don't you think? Smile

First off, let me say this is looking really amazing, and I expect it to be a memorable mod when it's finished. Really looking forward to it! Second, I'd say skip the demo. You've already got me hooked, and I imagine there are others here feeling the same way. A demo may allow people to experience your work sooner, but it will also slightly diminish the impact of the final project. I feel the same way about commercial games that have a shareware first episode, once you get the full version, you never want to play that one, and you're not enjoying the whole story then...just rushing to get to the new stuff.

I say NO to a demo. What's the point when you've come so far already with it? Having play tested 2 versions already, and doing graphical work for this project, I really do believe you could pull off the second beta being released in the middle of November, even with time restraints.

The gang all says "No to demo" Joshua said that he made public betas, but to be honest I think it's always best to send the alphas/betas to people that you want feedback from prior to release.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I've got to agree with Majik Monkee, Tricob, and Gerolf on this one. I was initially leaning more toward the "do not release demo" side; hearing feedback from you guys really helped reinforce what I was thinking. Thanks! That said, I've decided that I won't be releasing a demo (sorry to those who might have been hoping for one).

To my beta-testers: be on the lookout for my second beta-version in the next few weeks.

That reminds me, I could use one or two more beta-testers. Are there any others who are up to it? Smile

Demos are silly, not to mention old-fashioned. If you want to show the world your project without getting it all out, make a teaser and put it up on YouTube.
