Aside from some projects I've been working on here and there, I've also been experimenting more with IMF music. After getting some cool new sounds to play with and modify (thanks Executor) I've been trying to do more cool IMF covers of songs. As a little teaser, here's a rendition of Head Like A Hole by Nine Inch Nails, built out of modified Duke Nukem II sounds and some stuff from the Adventures of Square opl file

DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING

Fiddling with a Spear Randomizer at the moment, and attempting to navigate WL_Menu. Here's me adding some extra variables to my game, including Double Density (doubles the amount of spawns), and the dinging that results. Thankfully Godmode is a thing.

I love how the points float off the guards when they get killed. Don't think this has been done before? A very fun project which will most likely open up the floodgates to new fans.

I did a double take when I saw the youtuber's name (kingcrimson234). I was listening to King Crimson's Red at the time, and they're a pretty niche band, so it was sweet to see another Wolfer enjoys them!

(I promise, I'll stop derailing conversations one of these days.)

"King Crimson" is progressive rock de luxe. I also enjoy their music.

Several people I have met over the forums enjoy them and as do I. Caught a live show of theirs three years ago, an extraordinary night. In terms of modding, I could definitely hear some of their music fit for IMF conversion. Lol.

Iíve never heard of this King Crimson band before. For a minute, I was confused. I thought that you meant King Krimzon in this 4 minute video: https://www.drphil.com/videos/man-claims-playing-a-murder-rapping-evil-clown-is-like-therapy-for-him/ . If you watched the entire episode, I think heís not a fun rapper for very long. Iíll stop remembering to mention Dr. Phil unless itís about video game addiction!

Ryu-Sama & Thomas: Awesome! I suppose I shouldn't be that surprised; we are an extremely niche modding community, and niches tend to stick together, for whatever reason. If my current project ever does get finished, there might be some interesting IMFs in the music listing. The whole 1969-1981 period would work quite well for Wolfenstein music; the ProjeKcts less so. It's quite cool to hear you saw them live, Thomas! I would love to be able to do that some time, but probability does not seem to be with me.

stathmk: Interesting concept. I find that to me, that particular clown seems more likely to make me want to seek therapy, rather than to have theraputic effects. Laughing

For IMF-based music, that ought to be about right. The Big Band Era had come and gone by this point, and studio-only musicians hadn't become a standard thing by that point. So there was a definite limit to how many instruments were playing at one time.

As a plus side, the numerous guitar overdubs can all be a part of one track in IMF or MIDI, as nothing indicates that it needs to be playable to be sequenced. Very Happy

Have you ever heard this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0WTX7CVmmU

Too bad you cannot embed (this forum is from 1985) but still - killer guitar work here, always gave off a Fripp-y vibe for me. I would love to hear more actual instruments versions of Wolfenstein 3D and DOOM songs.

The 64K limit will get in your way in a lot of things. And yes, I've seen that guitar version video of that music before and quite enjoyed it; I'd forgotten it'd been done, as a matter of fact. No reason it couldn't be done in IMF, but notice those bending notes of that one guitar. I've had terrible trouble trying to get such things properly converted to IMF form.

Too bad the original game didn't just use external (not embedded) general midi files. Or better yet - MOD files.

I remember finding that video a while ago! It does sound Fripp-y, if only because of the EBow.
I hear you about the music files-it can be charming, but can get tiresome, depending on what you want. On a side note, I'm pretty sure that ECWolf supports .ogg format music, enabling nearly anything to be used. I acknowledge the typical stance on ECWolf, and I myself am developing a DOS mod, but it's a feature worth mentioning.
