Hello everyone,

It has been a long time since I said something on the forums

I have finally finished my old/new mod, Spear of Infinity. I've started to lose my interest in making my own mod, so before I might stop making something altogether, I thought of finishing this one first.

Please read the README! before playing for the story line and some info.

I hope you will like this mod, since while it took me some time to complete it, it was fun making it. If you played it, please give me some feedback if you have the time, because I might make something else in the far future.

Take it with a gain of salt, as I'm only at level 3 - but can't say too much nice things about this mod so far. Yes, I like the weapon sound and speed.

But beside that...

Mapping-wise it's pretty plain mapping, many areas underdecorated, guard placing is very...basic...right in front of the door or with same limited amount of used floorcodes - that make them come out all at once - yet not in a smart-trap-sort of way, but in front of you. Not too many deaf guards... Toilet seats placed weird not behind doors in open space...no privacy.

Artwise - yellows start to hurt the eye after a short while...art is mixed from too many different sources to blend well together....and why to use 2 types of toilet seats??

Readme-wise - numerious spelling mistakes.

I made level 1-10 way back in 2010/2011, and I left them rather unchanged and focussed more on the later levels. Trust me, the levels get quite better.

Well, I for one think the mapping is pretty solid. What bothers me the most is the yellowish ting all the guards and weapons have. But I suppose it's part of the plot - I can live with it - my impressions are that this is a solid affair though I think I'd personally enjoy it more if you'd kept the original guards. 7 out of 10 stars. Wink You've certainly progressed since you nicked NovoWolf... Hehe...

And unless you master the English language completely (which even Americans and Brits have their issues with) a read-me will never look "that" convincing. I thought your English was pretty good and I had no problems reading or understanding it.

And doomjedi, 2 types of toilet seats - I loved this when I first saw it. That's detail for you! Tell your team that the next Raycast mod should have 12 different water closets. Wink Or we ain't gonna buy it... lol...

I see most if not all of the mapping feedbacks are good so far, so maybe I was overly harsh...donnow...will play it more.

This is not detail, Thomas, you're experienced mapper - you could understand what I meant.
I'm not against "detail" in general (as you know) and not against variety of toilet seats - though I do prefer them to be different variants of the same basic seat (like "clean" vs "dirty" toilet seat in BvsB).
Here it looked like "I had 2 seats from other mod I liked, and I can't deside which one I like best - so I'll just put both in".
As even if you do use 2 different seats (even in college where I work we have old buildings vs newer buildings - with different toilet seats models) - and not just 2 variants of the same seat - it's just a mistake to use both type within the same toilet area. Have you ever met same toilet room with 2 different types of toilet seats (or toilet seats not behind doors?) ? You can make one area with one type of seat, and other with different type. But not within one room.

Also, talking detail - so far no other scenery variant I met (so far!) has 2 different variants....why to make toilet seats (which is less natural of all to have multiple variants) to stand out? Why to start from there?

Lol... Well, I don't know. In a way we're both right. I think what Hellblazer tried to pull off was to use the "old" toilets (from Totengraeber) as urinals, and AReyeP's more up-to-date toilets as stall toilets. Personally I use both urinals as well as toilets in my most recent mapping along with sinks. If that's what he tried to pull off (and what I read into it) I have no problem with it. But yes, streamlining is never too late. However, I think it's too small an issue to deal with. I certainly didn't stop playing because of the Nazis being able to take dumps in the hallway.

I don't know. I think doomjedi had his reasons for mentioning so. He's a very meticulously thorough person in terms of decor, gameplay and how everything connects in the big picture. I can totally take his side in some respects. But I look at Hellblazer as a relative newcomer, and am taken aback by some of his mapping (level 2 was great and I really dug level 14 as well) so moaning about restrooms seemed a tad odd. But I can easily understand why.

Yes, it's a small issue indeed. Didn't know we should not mention small issues.
It's actually flattering when all people have to mention about your mod are small issues.

Yes, at first I thought too that he meant urinals (first time I met those), as those are usually placed near the toilet entrance door, in open space, not behind inner doors. I thought it's a nice idea, but badly implemented artwise as you need alot of imagination to see those as urinals...especially you use a recognizable art used in so many other mods as toilet seat....also wrong perspective for an urinal.
But later I saw it placed...in not an "urinal" way - as urinals are usually placed together in one line, vs toilets seats usually behind a door for each...so I understood it may be indeed 2 different toilet seats.
I prefer art variants of same base variant - broken, dirty, leaking.....(it actually shows realism and detail much more)...but not totally different models.

But again....small issue Smile

To be honest, I never ever saw them as regular toilet seats but as urinals, untill you mentioned it D:

Gotta adjust the story a bit then. Included in The Hero his dream, he dreamed of people taking a dump in the middle of the halway while everyone is watching.

All I'm say'n is that taking into account (to me - what is a wrong decision) you use art for urinals that is used in alot of other mods as toilet seat - I'd place those in a more recognizable way to help to be seen as such - in a straight lines, along walls, without gaps.

I get your point, but I didn't pay too much attention to toilets/urinals. I guess my imagination is a bit too much when it comes to urinals...

Also in the first level there's a line of urinals with a small gap between them because I thought they'd be clustered too much if I didn't place a gap there. There are also places where there's a lonely urinal behind a door and a regular toiletroom next to it. On level 3 there is one room though, where the gold key is, where there are multiple urinals and toilets spread around the room, but that was just me being silly (also silly that there were two normal guards on the same toilet... Fill in yourself what they were doing there).

I never thought I would explain my thought proces about toilets and urinals, but there you have it xD

The mod does get better, and overall this is quite a nice work of a "young" but promising modder. Keep the mods coming Smile

Regarding urinals again...looked again at the art - and still - this doesn't look at all like an urinal, even artwise (sure not when you put it behind door, just like toilet seat). The least you could do is disconnect the art from the floor, make it more elevated....and the white upper part to make higher:



But the best choice was to go for a new art made from scratch....Can I offer you some art help? Smile

Yeah, it's a bit narrow. But the Nazis weren't that well stacked. This explains the shouting and the way the LE guards marched.

Doomjedi's art is of course excellent and well worth using, but in my ridiculous opinion, nothing beats using the vanilla basket sprite as a toilet. Or even better, no toilets at all. Let those Nazis suffer!

I remember Richter having a similar problem, but for different reasons. He and I ended up working together to correct the text. He wrote the storyline, and I simply proofread and corrected. It's sort of like public relations, I suppose. Smile

I have the utmost respect for Richter (I still want to say "Kyo") - he took a lot of shit in his day, he & I both share the Asperger's syndrome and I'm (correct me if I'm wrong, Richter) pretty sure he had some issues with dyslexia or something. I look to some of the 2004/05 posts from the old guard and they're just horrible. Worst of all were the old guard fanboys from then-13/14 year old members who went along with the bashing.

It's a combination of hive-mind, impatience and not knowing any better. Especially in your teens you don't always, let's say, think things through. Laughing So you might be more prone to sharp, cynical remarks. And sometimes a person can become impatient, because it can feel like you're talking to a brick wall. That said, it doesn't excuse bashing; especially if you're aware of the situation. It was before 'my time' I think, so I don't know how terrible it got in Richter's situation, but it's inexcusable nevertheless.

Well - it is what it is. Again, this is an online community, a lot of things can get lost in translation, and the so-called "leet speak" was at full force back in 2004/05 in certain places, which was excruciating, but even the usage of "u" instead of "you" could almost get you killed... lol... I suppose it's an age thing. We were 13-14 year old kids and they were all pushing 40 or something.
