The Ersatz Wolf3d Dome News thread will be my attempt to replicate the badly-missed Dome News in this forum. Comments will not be allowed in that thread, to keep the simplicity and continuity as it was on the Dome News. This thread is for everyone's comments on that thread.
I will pick up where The Dome News left off, and will gradually add more entries in chronological order until we are caught up. The first entry will be presented verbatim as it would have been on the Dome. Additional links will be posted too.
Please be patient and don't assume I have forgotten anything; sometimes I may take a while to get something posted. If you think I have missed an entry, let me know via PM or post your thoughts in this thread.
If/when Brian returns to update the Dome, this can be a reference for him to update his site. Matt Stath can use this to update/host any missing files, particularly larger ones that Brian cannot host, on wolfensteingoodies.com.

Concept of "backuping" news while the Dome is frozen is rather a cool initiative |

Thanks for all the positive reponses.
It would be better if Brian could return to running the Dome again. |

Either that, or perhaps hand it over to someone who has the time/effort/interest to do so. I think that seems fair if Brian would want to do that. He's been the glue in this community for many, many years. |

If possible, I agree. Chronic fatigue sucks, and can really knock you out and it can take a while to recover from. |

BTW, I like that Youtube playthroughs and reviews on the Wolf3D blog are included in the news as well. |

If someone was to take over the the Dome, I'd personally like to see the 'Mod of the Mod' award return also.
Great suggestion though Andy |

It's only possible because these news items are weeks behind the actual release dates, but thanks!

I assume you mean the Dome Award, and I agree.
The problem with "taking over the Dome", as you put it, is that no one is/was as devoted to Wolfenstein 3D as Brian. He not only maintained the 2 websites and hosted the addons, he playtested almost everything he posted, made his own mods, and helped others with their mods. And kept it up pretty much continuously from 1998 through 2013.
I'm having somewhat of a "burst" of inspiration lately, but only in the matter of getting the "substitute" Dome News up to date. No time or energy for mods, testing them, etc. Matt Stath's updates on wolfensteingoodies.com have been sporadic, nowhere near the consistent, at-least weekly news updates Brian posted.
So when I say that Brian is irreplaceable, it's not just hyperbole. |

There's quite some interesting stuff in that mapping anthology. Is this all from memory or did you always write everything down, Thomas? |

All from memory, I never write anything down or take notes. This "revised" version is however loosely based, or basically a rewrite/continuation, of the very same anthology I put together in early 2009. Anything from Endlösung onwards is brand new. |

Why I can't promise I'll read it all - my hat truly off for Thomas for this antology...
It's amazing both of your patience to write this all down - but also and even more so to remember your vision and details about each map you're ever made in your long mapping career...
Respect, bro, true respect. |

Yeah, as I stated in the document I don't expect people to read this thoroughly and passionately.... It's just something I did to both keep track of my released work and to get some strange sort of inner peace. |

I'll have a hard time guessing so I just have to ask: What did I miss?! Both Holle entries are there. |

I must've forgotten to list it in the top, but they are certainly under December 2007 as a part of Escape from Castle Holle though. As it has been so long I had kind of forgotten about it really and my original idea was to list Odds and Ends as a stand-alone thing, not take each project at a time. |

I went through that entire Dome website a while back, looking for every nook and cranny and interesting addon that there ever was and have since backed up 1.34 GB worth of stuff, both some old/played and finished before and many new I need to check out still or start up again and finish properly. Certainly way easier to manage Wolf stuff than Doom I must say! But then it helps that this is a smaller community that doesn't pump out releases around the clock.
And Mr. Lowe's classic yellow Wolf3D page is the reason I ever found out about any of this awesome stuff in the first place since 2002. |

Brian's yellow site is the watering hole... Funny you've been surfing the archives recently as well... I still haven't made it past 2001... lol there I said it... I'm still looking for quality map sets from the old days, any mod actually. I mean, you come across weird things like The Return of Doctor Schabbs which has its own EXE and unique graphics, though most maps are below par... Seems to me maps were always the weakest link back then. I suppose the creators were enamored with the newfound possibilities of coding and graphics in the wake of Totengraeber and Spear Resurrection, respectively...
And faded projects. Something called Einmacht which looked tremendous, a whole new batch of artwork and VGA not seen elsewhere either... If by Zach Higgins had a cool status bar, a crossover of the original blue and the one from Totengraeber.
I need to download all the Wolf stuff I can and get back in the groove... I've been playing SODFloors by Jamie E. Edwards which dates from 1995 but is lovely, and Ken O'Brien's Remake which was released in 2003 but seems out of sync with the fact that most other O'Brien efforts were just as ancient as SODFloors or the same era.
I'd love to play Chokage again but I'm begging for an SDL port like a baby, still. |

I saw the post in the news regarding an addon called Project: Wolfenstein v2.0 with a video by Protokol Cateko, and noticed this freak.
Any idea where that one can be found? |

1000 ammo, a whole lot of health, difficult guards... Looks like a fun shoot 'em up type of mod... "Super Shooter" - I think I've seen this name before, but definitely not around here. I can see it's Hungarian, so maybe kkk911 from the Haven forum knows what's going on here. |

I am not too sure it's in the Dome listings, but it may be in the news. Or else I'm just crap at looking things up. And that WolfMenu is MINT - a real ace tool. |
