If you send the me the images, I can stick them in; it's probably easier considering I'm also maintaining the code base as well.

Speaking of code base, I need to forward that brief tutorial to you also ... the one on how you do that "directional flag" code. I also need to include the Adlib sounds for the new treasure items in the ZIP file, too. Gonna have to go back into Windows to do that. Bah.

AlumiuN - I E-Mailed you what I have so far regarding the MMC updates I've done. Please PM me when you get it, and let me know if you're having any problems with the files. You might have the bookcase textures in different places than I do, so just tell me what place on the map list they appear, and I'll handle the rest. Smile

I finished the redo of New Treasure #5 (It replaces the Dollar Bills image). It's a simple Nazi doubloon, and while it looks complex to make, I did it from scratch in about 90 minutes with ChaosEdit. It isn't made with anything more than some simple anti-aliasing techniques; it looks ray-traced, but it's really not.

The Grey Blocks texture is made, but it's the wrong brightness. I'll have to tinker with it further to get it looking right.

I was thinking about using this exe for mod purposes, as suggested by the map control manual. There's just one thing, what would actually make the player finish the game?

(I was thinking that maybe #99 Endgame Trigger would have such effect on a non-contest map. But right now it seems to just be a duplicate of #10 Endgame North)

Currently, I don't think anything actually finishes the game.

A million thanks to you for all the great work you've been putting into this since almost a decade, AlumiuN.

May I ask, is this also a good time to discuss who gets to coordinate next? I myself am fine with whatever is decided since there were three (four, if you will) winners last time. Whatever the majority decide is okay. I am only asking so that others have a say and we are all on the same page, too.

Cheers,

Ariel

It's my pleasure; it's actually a great way to get a look at what people can come up with when present with experimental features Very Happy

I seem to remember that it was decided previously that it was easiest for me to coordinate it as I was also the source maintainer, but it doesn't make too much of a difference to me.

I might be compelled to make a submission, but I have been out of the circuit for quite a long while (a decade for mapping and 3 years for modding in general) so I might need a little more help finding the necessary files to get started than reasonable people would expect.

I downloaded HWE and have that working. Where is the dev package for this? Does it have HWE definitions?

The new package should be released around 1 August, the previous one can be found here (instructions are included Smile): http://www.mediafire.com/download/ltg5acf5a608lid/MMC2014Q4_Kit.zip

Don't know if there are definition files for HWE though.

I'm probably not going to have it out by the 1st at this rate (I haven't been well lately). I don't think I put HWE definitions together, but I can look into doing so.

Thanks to a poorly timed power outage, it's unlikely I'll have this out tonight. I should be able to release it some time tomorrow.

So we may be able to make it a more frequent event again? That would be sweet! I already have one work in progress map made with the old kit. And I'm sure there's a lot of potential in the kit I have yet to explore.

Fair warning, there has been a bit of object reshuffling, so old maps may require some retooling, rather than just being able to add the new features.

EDIT: I've decided to completely redo how the map properties are done, so that rather than using part of the map itself to define things like floor and ceiling colours, there will be an external file that does it instead. It does mean I'm likely to take at least a few more days to finish putting the kit together, though.

Quick question: who still uses Mapedit for this competition? I'm mostly finished apart from the Mapedit symbols, but if no-one uses them, it's probably not worth the time and effort to make them, especially considering I'm not entirely sure that I'd be able to make the new symbols look different enough from existing ones (and there's a lot of new ones).

I might use MapEdit for this, but HWE is more probable.

I do. I have used it in all the editions of this contest that I've submitted maps for. However, if it really will involve a lot of work and time to get it right (considering that even with a lot of work and time the 'right' part remains uncertain), then I can definitely move on to WDC; it would actually give me a (new) perfect excuse to finally start using it.

I can't speak for others, though.

Best,

Ariel

To be fair, we might move the map deadline to a later date, thus allowing the HWE and MapEdit kits to be made, and everyone would have a more reasonable amount of time to get their map(s) done and submitted.

Thanks, a new MapEdit kit would be most welcome, but like I said: if it is too troublesome to put together then I myself am fine with moving on to WDC. Again, others who still use MapEdit might have a different say on the matter.

I am sure HWE users would welcome the extension themselves.

Also and just so we are all on the same page, has a new map deadline been announced already? I am sorry that I have to ask, but I honestly don't remember that being the case.

Thanks,

Ariel

I'll make an HWE kit because that seems like it'll be easier; if someone else is willing to make Mapedit definitions I'm more than happy to include them.

There has been no deadline set yet, in particular because the kit hasn't been released yet (and it has a lot of changes), and also partially because I feel like with the small number of people we have a deadline is rather an inflexible way of running it.

For MapEdit, I'm aware of how the MapEdit files are structured, so I can probably lend a hand in designing a kit for that. The only catch is that I'll be testing it in DOS Box.
