Dear fellow Wolfers,

With the coding feature of 128x128 textures adding the possibility of giving more 'high resolution' depth to Wolfenstein 3D graphics, why not touch up the original Wolfenstein graphics? Just using 'stretch' in ChaosEdit isn't gonna cut it, I'd say. This high resolution pack would turn, ideally, into a filled VSWAP with a modified WolfSDL exe (with the 128x128 graphics enabled in the engine) for everyone to use, be it for original Wolf (provided they bring in their own WL6 / SOD files) or personal projects.

For a lot of graphics we can use the Mac Wolfenstein graphics as a base, but a lot of graphics need reworking as they were not introduced in the Mac version.

Anyone willing?

This has been done many times and under many engines.
Even I released MAC-art pack for Spear, Wolf3D and even Mission Packs - scenery, enemies, Bosses, items...even HUD faces... etc.
Hi-res textures were done and used in many projects...Wolf3D TC for zDoom, NewWolf, WolfTC for Doomsday and such.

Contacting Freelanzer can help much...maybe he can donate his texture work, I think some online archive has it. I know a russian guy who has it as well I think.

But 8-dir enemies are not done in 128x128 and I think will never be done.

I myself feel no special charm for 128x128 graphics (despite being author of Double-Res pack for Skulltag) or such double-res projects. Pretty pointless IMO. Wolf3D is all about pixellated charm.
But you can sure use my released art made for 128x128. I can also help contacting Freelanzer.

Pretty much everything that was not in the MAC version has been made into 128x128 graphics set in the style of the MAC version, except for the 8 directional enemies.

Also if they are used, then the floor color needs to be changed to brown, or the sprites need their shadows edited to gray again.

I remember from last year that this Professor named James W had a web page with high resolution walls. Itís only for the 6 episodes of Wolfenstein 3D, but not for The Spear of Destiny. Balames87 or somebody did a video with the high resolution textures. Iím going to look for the web page or where I downloaded the files. Give me a day or 2 to respond.

I may have seen those textures. There's not touch-ups of the original graphics. Instead, the general structure of each graphic is overlapped with various "skins", thus making the textures more detailed. I saw them demonstrated in a NewWolf video, which you can find here.

We need to find freelanzer pack

http://wolf3d.darkbb.com/t1227-wolfenstein-3d-high-resolution-texture-packs

It's from "WolfTC for Doomsday" project I worked with him on.

Ok, looked on my comp

I still have Freelanzer hi-res textures file in my NewWolf folder, it's .pak file of 100 MB. And pack2 of 6 MB.
(files from 2009)
Never knew I had it.
How can I extract the textures from the .pak file?

Also I have "WolfTC for Doomsday" files...but I don't think it includes the pack.

...extracted them to PNG. 134 Hi-res textures (including darker variants), 512x512

I'm waiting for a response from James W.

There's more than 1 high definition texture pack for Wolfenstein 3D.

DoomJedi, please upload the high definition texture pack that you found on the computer. It might eventually be put on The Dome by Tristan. I want to at least play it.

I've seen at least three. The one I'm *not* interested in is an incomplete texture pack with "blurry" versions of any texture without a Mac-graphics counterpart.

Regarding Freelanzer's pack I have - can sure upload...just where to? It's over 100MB, DropBox might give me warning or worse...already did for linking NML from it.

Dropbox gives you warnings? I have uploaded and linked to files over 100MB, and I never got any warning (so far).

It's not filesize, it's number and total size of downloads.
NML is a popular mod with hundreds of downloads.
My Dropbox account got blocked (but as first warning I could unlock it back), so I switched dropbox links for NML for Moddb ones.

James W has now uploaded The Original Missions, The Nocturnal Missions, and Spear of Destiny episode 1 all in WolfenDoom for Doom 2. But it's gzDoom configured. He wants to know if I or anybody else would play a Doomsday configured version of the same thing. I don't remember how Doomsday could be better or different. I admit that I know practically nothing about the Doomsday source port. Post if you'd be interested in playing these in Doomsday. Sorry this has gotten off topic into WolfenDoom instead of conventional Wolf 3D.

I have yet to get Doomsday working in any of the more modern OSs. I'd say skip the idea unless you can do something to quash the compatibility issues.

Overnight, James W posted Doomsday files:
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~jimw/Doom/000.htm

This is an excerpt from the message that James last sent me:
= = = = =
Are you looking for textures and models compatible with the original Wolf executable, the NewWolf executable, Doom executable, Doomsday executable, or gzDoom executable?

It has been a while since I ripped this stuff apart and repacked it.
= = = = =

Whatís your response to what James typed? I donít know very much at all about programming in gzDoom or Doomsday, so I donít know how to respond to him again yet.

Tricob, Iím using Windows Vista. What operating system are you using?

I tried it with both Windows XP and Windows 7. I never could get it running in either one. Either it doesn't like the OS or it doesn't like the graphics card; some games like "Game Over" will crash if they use more video RAM then they know what to do with, so that's why I'm not ruling out the latter possibility.

OT - Ron, it's been suggested to me that you have to place the E-Mail address in a "white list". When running through the Moderate menus though, it says that the E-Mail is already registered. I'll assume that the registration process works now until we're informed otherwise. Smile

OK. Ronwolf, I had forgotten to check with Just_Jim to see if he can log in here. I want to try to remember to tell you in 2 days if he can log in.

I do believe I can Login now! Thank you very much.

I have and will be updating to http://www-personal.umich.edu/~jimw/ and follow the link: "Page Returned - 03/31/2015 - Wolfenstein 3D"

I like the look of Doomsday but it crashes to much so I will not be doing anything with it. The textures and models work on an older version of gzDoom and the current version does not displat 3D Models. I may try to figure out why this is later.

The true Wolf3D textures and models target the NewWolf engine which which keeps the feel of the original gameplay intact. Additionally, NewWolf supports the huge number of user-made levels available on the internet without having to do anything to them other than surviving the Enemy Onslaught.

I remember doing something with "Rise of the Triad", but I don't know if I have any parts lying around. Does anybody remember "Chasm - The Rift"? I would love to find a GL-version or figure out how to Hi-Res it.

I don't remember "Chasm - The Rift."

There's Return of The Triad for Doom 2. It's made by El Zee. I haven't played it in maybe a year. I'd give it 5 stars, but I can't beat it. I think that there's an editor for it on El Zee's page. I don't think it technically has high resolution graphics, but maybe you might want to look into it.
