Have there been many mods in the past few years that have implemented this extensively, or even a little? I'm actually looking for resources for destructible sprites. It won't be so bad to make them, but if they're already out there, why reinvent the wheel (if the wheel-inventor doesn't mind Very Happy). Preferably they be original Wolf3D-style, but if they're not I'm still interested.

I would like a scene like THIS in which everything is fallen apart, shot to pieces, even the flags on the walls (which is do-able in zdoom). Credit to Doom Jedi for the gibbed brown guards you see there; I'm using them as placeholders for now to test the chaingun.

There are various destroyable objects in The Lost Missions: brown & green plant, tables, vase, toilet. Apart from the toilet, those are all based on the original Wolf3D sprites. I'm sure there are various other mods that use destroyable objects, but I'm not sure how many are based on the original sprites.

As far as AReyeP's Spear mods, the "destructible column" is in fact built from the original Wolf3D column sprite. I thought it was rather ingenuous how he came up with the idea of the thing coming apart right where the slits are.

Regarding credits in "Lost Missions" - blue vase frames are my art, so is the green/brown barrel. The rest are animations Ron did himself (I suppose)

I have made more such animations - including for wooden barrel (empty and full) and for (empty and full) normal green barrel - but those are used in one of the in-dev projects...I'll need Ron approval to share.

I have to check if the vases in The Lost Missions are yours - I know you created one for an in-dev project, but I'm not sure if these are one and the same. All the other destroyable objects, apart from the shootable box, were created by WLHack.

Ron, I've replaced them long ago. Indeed originally they used an animation done by you (EDIT: WLHack?). I just thought mine is better, so I replaced, as part of my graphic overall retouch...(I slightly retouched some of your animations as well).
It's weird after all the testing you didn't notice it this far.

So...can I share the other art? Of other barrels?

I did notice it, just didn't remember that it was replaced. So credit to doomjedi for the vase. And again, all the other animations are done by WLHack.

I'm fine with you sharing the art, if Zach needs it.

I really appreciate it guys. I'll try to use as little as possible, but whatever I do use I'll be sure to credit. This green barrel is a winner for sure:


Now I just need damageable/breakable:
- wells (I think just chips or bullet holes, but maybe later I'll look at an "extreme" death version that crumples a big hole in the wall; that would look cool).
- suits-of-armor (in a perfect world I'd have a falling-forward animation, could even find a way to make that give you damage and alert enemies, bit of an RTCW nod)
- flag stands

Well, I'll see what I can do the armor. Not falling forward...But apart...Can try.
Similar to what I did in "Eisenfaust: Legacy".

Probably try to do something on Saturday.

Flag should be easy too. I'll try to think of something...bullets will need to "open" it a bit I guess.

These sprites are really, really cool. Sincere kudos to all of the artists involved... Thought of using different "destruction" sets, triggered randomly in the code, much like the death screams from the brown guards?

If I understand correctly, that's actually similar to what I'm doing with a few things in this zdoom DECORATE code. DoomJedi's empty barrel breaking animation has 3 degrees of destroyed-ness. I've set it to have a fair chance of jumping to any one of those three states. So right, conceivably you could have as many different breaking animations as you like! I actually have the guards in my mod having several alternative dying animations, and some more severe ones if you're using the chaingun.

And here's an alternate barrel, wanted it to look like it be holding something inside.



Also chaingun has its own ammo now. Might not keep this, but if you see what the rate of fire is for this baby, you'll understand.

Agh, so cool. I also plan to have the sink spew water for a while after breaking. Thinking about recoloring that gray water sprite from the Duke Nukem 3D toilet breaking animation, if it looks good.
