A lot of talk about what we could do next after the Lost Episodes set is finished has appeared on that thread, so I thought I'd take the ideas that have come up so far and put them in a poll. That can help provide a snapshot of what the most people would be going for. Smile

Two choices are allowed if you'd prefer to have a top two as opposed to a single top pick.

Well, I certainly liked the "let's make 6 new Wolf3D episodes" idea.

I would prefer something new, a mod/engine we haven't done before: S:R, Totengraeber, whatever. As long as it's set up the same as the LE set, with map-defined stuff, I'm with with it, really.

I picked the last two options because my preference is either a new MotM or Totengraeber (as indicated in the other thread). However, let me add that if presented with a choice between the two Doom-based mods, I'd have to pick Klooni because it's such a good recreation of the game (and because I have already mapped for it a while ago, so I know the basics).

I picked vanilla wolf/spear and other, however both votes go together because I had the idea that the community make a 6 episode set, with all the walls from SOD added, as well as the spear objects and boss types. Each episode would have a storyline and a new boss (the bosses would use new graphics, have new names etc.) some additional walls could be added that for the original graphics of the game.

The idea would be that it is an expansion to wolf 3d. There could be 2 main stories (to divide the 6 episodes into 3 episode sets like the original game did) or all six episodes make one whole story.

Or it could be a 21 level set like Spear but with all the wolf 3d objects and boss types added in to give mappers more things to use.

AlumiuN, how many submissions have you as of this writing received for the next MotM round?

Thanks,

Ariel

I wouldn't mind seeing a proper expansion for Wolfendoom, unlike Klooni which was trying to be as Doom-like as possible Wolfendoom is its own entity, though it has no source code changes I can think of its aesthetic creates a radically different atmosphere, plays more like Wolf but looks more like Doom, and is, in my little universe, a prequel to Doom.

Thanks for confirming. This means we have two maps for this already, which is no doubt very good. Please do keep 'em safe and look out for further submissions - I am sure that with time we will be able to arrive at a releasable package. I am really looking forward to another entry in this series...

Cheers,

Ariel

I feel bad for missing Totengraeber (SDL). Maybe a mod could edit the poll and include it in the list because it seems to have caught on & it's one I think would be good too Smile

Only two? That doesn't sound right. I thought we had at least four - including one of my own.

Man, I'm tired of mutants. It's been done one too many times.
Why not take the challenge of making the Nocturnal Episodes interesting?

Thus far it's yours and one by serpens. If there are any more, I didn't put them in the place I normally put maps Razz

I think adding an occult theme or something like that would be a cool idea, as a story involving the nazis and hell. The mutants could be demonic enemies.

[sigh] My post is what happens when I rely on my memory for recent events rather than actual posts in the forum; my brain tends not to store info in order like it should - it just throws it into a pile somewhere. Razz

Well I'm bumping this a bit because I think it's time to make a consideration now. A lot of ties. In general I wouldn't recommend committing to anything that must have more than 20 maps (give or take). Maybe try the MotM first and then look at the other choices if there's a lack of submissions there.

I'm all for finishing up the MOTM submissions myself. It's partly for selfish reasons, I admit - I'm eager to check out the submission by Serpens, and I'm very interested to see how people react to my newest submission; their response to it is unpredictable in my eyes, and it excites me.

I'm all for a new MotM round - if we can keep up the variety of mappers involved with it. As for a community mod, I'm fine with anything really. As long as it's as conveniently set up for the mappers as the LostEp kit was.

AlumiuN, can you please advise if the mapping kit posted here...

http://diehardwolfers.areyep.com/viewtopic.php?t=6949&start=0

...has since changed, or if those're the real-thing goodies as of this writing?

Thanks much, kind Sir...

Ariel

I believe the mapping kit is identical to the one posted there, yes.

Thanks for confirming, Sir. I will do my very best to turn something in in time for the next as-far-I-know unconfirmed deadline. Here's hoping we'll see another entry in this series...

Cheers,

Ariel

I like the idea of doing something based around the prequel missions. BJs first major bad-ass moments tracking down the trail of chemical weapons to keep them from being used in the war? Hell yes!

Or perhaps the primary character is a descendent of BJ in the Civil War. I doubt that many fights in big open fields are practical to construct in the Wolf4SDL engine, but perhaps the descendent is a victim of mistaken identity, seized by an evil organization located underground, and he's taken in a booth to be executed (He would escape before his execution, of course).
