I have taken all the options and suggestions from the last time, and added them to the poll. Please select the option that you would want as the base for our next community effort. You have till the end of the month to make your vote. One vote per person. Option with the most votes will be the base for the next community set.

Good luck choosing! Mr Green

I went with Totengraeber. I realize it may take some time, but who cares. It would be real neat.

But if it's all about churning out something come Christmas, SOD is the way to go.

Nah, that was only a suggestion for the MotM round. We can take our time for this one, as far as I'm concerned.

My vote goes to "Spear: Resurrection". I personally would like to see such a set; not much has happened with SOD2 modding lately.

Is that the LE mapset? I knew about that one and contributed maps for it, but never heard of a vanilla SOD mapset

Nope, there was a vanilla SoD set released in 2011 that he's linked to. Maps are by:

AReyeP (3x - probably his last vanilla levels ever, sadly)
Dean (3x)
Hellblazer (3x)
Ipank7000 (1x)
Megabyte (3x)
ronwolf1705 (3x)
serpens (2x)
Thomas (3x)

On a side note, I was wondering if anyone has a vanilla SOD SDL EXE with only the 128x128 resolution walls implemented lying around that I could borrow?

As far as I'm aware, just getting Wolf4SDL and uncommenting the USE_HIRES define in version.h and the appropriate defines for Spear Of Destiny should allow that.

Will you look at this, yet another tie. At least there's only two winning options now and both are very interesting choices that we've never done as a community before.

Hahaha, what are the odds Mr Green Alright, how to solve this.. should we do another poll between the two options? Is there an option that is easier to do coding-wise, so the map-defined stuff from the LE set can be added?

Totengraeber sounds good to me. Is there source code available for it so I can make similar changes to it as I did the Lost Episodes set?

EDIT: Also, seeing as it didn't win, I think I might make my own Wolfendoom set. I've wanted to map for that for aaaaaaaages. Razz

I know for sure that the DOS code was released, but I'm not sure about the 4SDL version. I believe MCS created that one, but I don't think he released it..

Totengraeber was in fact ported to SDL. The source was not included, though.

Totengraber as you know is slotted into different parts. Tunnels separate the units. So this will work best if each mapper is assigned certain maps so he/she/them/it knows what to do. I know I'm the last person who should say this. In terms of map spots though, just randomize. Just so that we avoid someone having made a castle level or a lab level or a tunnel that ends up in a place where it should definitely not be.

Unless this is not just a map set? I don't know if you guys intend that we have 48 levels arranged in a different fashion than Totengraeber's or if you want to add new stuff to the code though there is really no need, in my opinion. I sincerely hope that this will be a map set and nothing but. I would love to see how you guys would treat this particular mod!

I'm personally always for adding the ability to choose your own floor/ceiling colors and the tune that accompanies your level. This worked pretty well for the LE set, in my opinion. Apart from that though, nothing new in-game or anything. The game remains the same.

I'd say we keep the order of groups the same, but not necessarily the length. Not sure about how to intersperse the tunnels though. As far as code changes go, I was merely thinking map defined floor and ceiling colours and music, nothing else.

LE was different, as it always is with Spear or Wolf, it's a blank slate and decided upon as such. With Totengraeber you have an already finished EXE that has been modified, and some predetermined ceiling colors and music that fit each level. And if any mapper can pick the tune, then we'll have the same 3 songs in a row or something as has already happened.

More crap: Remember Totengraeber is old school, so it only allows for 399 sprites and 149 guards. With what we've gotten used to that's quite a challenge.

I could increase that limit too; it might just be the way I think, but I see no reason to limit ourselves to exactly what the original author had to play with.

EDIT: Anyone know how (or if) I can contact MCS? He's the one who did the SDL conversion of Totengraeber, so if he still has the source it would be handy Smile

Out of curiosity, are there even any mapper tools available for Wolfendoom?
