I just bought a shareware copy of wolf 3D on eBay. A lot of the listings for this particular disc say that it is RARE.

Does anyone know anything about this and why it would be considered rare?

E_bay ... the same site that also claims that the Atari 2600 Combat game is rare ... even though it's one of the most common 2600 games of all time. Smile

Different sellers will have more accurate information than others about how rare something is. There are databases available to show you how common or rare a release is, so don't take the seller's word for it right away.

As Wolf3D stands, it's not rare at all. It appeared in Shareware releases everywhere. The rarest Apogee DOS release I know of is v1.0 of "Commander Keen", the first trilogy. This had the infamous bug that reset the system clock every time you started the game up. It was a very outdated way of detecting the speed of the CPU's processor. If it's v1.0, expect any episode of this trilogy to be hard to come by ... digital or not.

This is what the disc looks like. I haven't received it yet and the seller didn't give details as in what version number it is and things like that, but when I receive it I'll post about it on here.

Also I didn't buy this but I found it on eBay. It's the shareware version in 2 floppy disc. I found the cover art interesting because it shows an older version of Wolfenstein 3D..
