With the Dome dormant, I am debating on bringing back the Wolfenstein 3D Vault. I plan on getting Passage to Hollenteufel out first, but after that, I am considering this. I have a skeleton version of it pretty much ready to go that I created back in 2008 when I was going to bring it back but never did. I would focus primarily on news about new sets and being a one stop shop for things like coding tutorials, utilities, etc. Do you think there is a need for it and should I bring it back?

I'm all for having the Vault coming back, but you might consider getting some feedback from trusted users before making its address public. I can understand that having a site of your own up and running for several years ... such a site would be close to your heart, and you wouldn't want to change anything. But keep in mind that - even in a fan community like that of Wolf3D - you might need to make some changes to keep up with the times.

I think the most practical approach is to let people post here who are willing to check it out, and they could tell you what should stay, what should go, and what needs simple modification. You can always PM the link to them when the site is ready for try out. Smile

I agree. The version I have is straight out of 2001 and I would want to update it to modern standards. I'll finish PTH and then I'll look at maybe reconstructing it, if I decide to do it that is.

I think websites have gotten too convoluted with too many ads, javascript elements, and social integration over the last 10-15 years. I find just reading stuff on the forum easier these days. Those old html sites that played midis and gifs were fun though.

I have no problem with the banner ads today. The days of addoublielick.net are history, so we don't get those annoying pop-up error windows that partner site is so infamous for.

Bringing up addoubleclick.net though, there is some sort of virus out there with that name attached to it. I must have moved to a Linux-based OS by the time it came out; I've run never across it.

I am debating again if I should bring back the Wolfenstein 3D Vault as my next Wolf3D related project if the Front isn't up yet by the time I finish Atomprojekt (likely in early 2017). I don't want to compete with Tris (Hopefully he is okay as he hasn't logged in since September 7th), but I think with the Dome dormant, a new "Wolf3D Central" hub is needed. Thoughts?

Being that the skeleton I have is basically the old Vauit from 2001, I will likely need to redesign it from the ground up so its up to modern design standards.

I do agree that a hub is needed, but indeed it would be wise to check with Tris first.

I agree. Have you or anybody heard from him recently either by DM or email?

I am in favor of that. The "Front" or another one. Also I agree we should avoid internal competition, if possible.

I can help for hosting if needed. I have some high availability server without ads, slowness or other limitations.

In any case we need at least one site goin. It's insanely hard to find anything released after the dome was stopped being updated, unless you feel like scouring the forums. Hell im still finding ecwolf stuff I didn't even know existed because of a lack of exposure

Agreed, I'd hate to miss out on something cool due to the lack of coverage. I've seen stuff on moddb that sneaks by without anybody knowing a thing and it's just lame.

I agree completely. I think I am going to do it if Tris is still M.I.A. by the time I finish Atomprojekt.
