I hope Nintendo will relaunch the SNES and include the SNES censored Wolfenstein 3D as a built in game.

A lot of fond memories of this console. Very cool that it returns.

I'm all for this release, but it's odd that Super C is included but not Contra, its predecessor. Note also that the article lacks proofreading; how hard is it to spell "Ghosts n' Goblins"?

This is really cool. $59.99 (+$9.99 for a 2nd controller) sounds like a decent affordable price too for what you get.

Joshua, I think that you’ll like to watch this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOmEB6zGIT8
Amazing & cute!

I think that I can infer that 8 Eyes & Castlevania 3 might not work for it because they have incompatible built-in chips & Castlevania 3 has a different editor? The reviews of 8 Eyes weren’t good anyways.

"Mig-29: Soviet Fighter" has given me problems with every emulator because of its obscure mapper. I was never able to play it myself until I plugged it into a real NES. If you want to truly test an emulator's compatibility, Mig-29 would be the first cart I'd choose.

Yesterday, I dreamt I was playing a mini-NES & mini-SNES in a store until the workers told me to leave because the store is closing for the night. Maybe I dreamt of it because of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOmEB6zGIT8

I found the new selections kind of disappointing. No Dig Dug, no Galaxian, and no Magical Doropie.

Just feels like they're trying to sell us back our nostalgia which is an easy buck. Sure it's better than emulators, but this also feels a couple years too late to me.

This person said that you may use a certain kind of Wii Classic Controller, Wii Classic Controller Pro, or third part controller for The NES Classic Edition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaGDPM44-N0 . It reminds me that you can use a Sega Controller for The Atari 2600.

Anyone here having trouble getting one?

The Walmart I work at only got 6, SIX total (a single box). They sold out at midnight, and we ordered over 100 more, but are waiting for the shipment. Weird thing is, we only sold 5. One is missing, either one of the managers forgot to put it back when they were using the UPC data to order more, or there is some sort of internal theft going on.

Strangely, the Gamestop next door also only got 6, and sold out and had to order more too.

Yep ... the video link I provided gripes about such a problem. Nintendo has made this sort of move before, and it played out terribly. I'm aware of situations where a company has made far more copies of a system than will ever be sold, but this is just cutting corners too far in.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that. The graphics chips the games use are often part of the cartridge, not the SNES itself. Add to that, emulating the sound is a nightmare. You can have Starfox sound awesome and everything else sound like a worn-out Yamaha, or the other way around. Even if you use real hardware instead of emulation, it's just not a simple process.

I'm watching Youtube videos about how The NES Mini will be discontinued very soon if it isn't already. Somebody has an opinion that it's a business decision that Nintendo thinks that it's distracting people a little bit from buying the Nintendo Switch? I don't actually have a Nintendo Switch, NES mini, Wii U, or Wii. I hear that there's a virtual console on the Wii U, Wii, and possibly the GameCube where you buy NES or SNES games for download.

The NES Mini was never supposed to be a long-term thing, and its non-expandability is proof of that. But I still thought it was a little early to pull the plug on it. Even Nintendo acknowledged that not everyone would get an NES Mini that was wanting one. Shouldn't that tell you that maybe you should sell it a little longer, or release an upgraded version of the same thing?

I saw many boxes of another version at the corner store on Sunday. This one came with two joysticks and 620 games.

I think this might have been it, or close?
https://www.gogiftpro.com/Mini-Retro-Video-Nes-Game-Console-Built-in-620-Different-Classic-Games-with-Two-Joysticks

Not sure if it had an A/V or HDMI cable. Seems pretty neat, might actually go back and look at it again today and/or buy it.

edit: I ended up buying one, and it's working. Very Happy Here's a picture of the game "Mario 6"

Well, it works, sure, but it's not true HDMI image quality (just conversion) and games are just chinese bootlegs most of which are duplicated are barely playable.

As I own 2 of these sets (for my stupid times before I knew about retropie) - waste of money, not using those.

Retropie is all you need. Not only for nes. You'll never look back.
https://retropie.org.uk/
All consoles under one system, fully configurable, you can add/change any game you want, have saves, bezels, scrapers, shaders, filters, overlays, video previews and much much more, up to 4 players (even more), wired or wireless.
You can even add ports of wolf3d, doom, duke and many others, even play DOS games under dosbox.
Great facebook group and support as well.

I wish you'd get my advice before ordering that one.

Retropie seems like a useful thing if you have something like Raspberry pi.
Otherwise, you can stick to emulators.

A friend of mine bought a NES mini, and a considerable amount of the games seemed like ROM hacks with Mario's face masterfully added on the player.
I, on the other hand, finally got retropie working, and I must agree: It is a great solution.

There are a LOT of games, which have Mario' s head slappen on them, ranging from Mario 14's to weird stuff like Dian Shi Ma Li.

I seem to recall a "Mario 7", which featured a player who wielded a bow-staff, and had Mario's head from SMB 2 & 3.
These days, we've got Google Play to do the same thing.

Well, if I had to choose between the two, I'd pick the bootleg NES stuff, because they still have a level of entertainment to them like Vietnanese pokemon, while the stuff on Google play.... it's not as good.
As for the game you speak of, I think it's actually Mario 14.
In that game "Mario" wields a staff.

Oh, I will always prefer bootleg rom hacks to Google Play bootleggery; The rom hacks tend to have at least a bit more effort put into them.
Mario 14? I guess it's been something like 6 months since I played it, but yeah, upon further research, that's it!
(Turns out, it was a rom hack of "Kaiketsu Yanchamaru 3: Taiketsu! Zouringen", a famicom exclusive title.)

You say it like it's either you are born with pi or without.

You can buy it really cheap on Ali, and there you go Smile I did - for retropie specifically
I really can't get enough if ot, sorry to keep promoting.
And I bought it after I had 2 of those bootleg chinese NES consoles, one (from datafrog) is still unpacked.

Well, I am not able to purchase anything from the web right now and besides, I've grown accustomed to using Android emulators.
As for the 100000000in1 games, they are pretty useless ,as the makers tend to replicate the same game 1000 times and make minor changes to the name.
The real meat and potatoes are bootlegs that are either homebrews or ports. The latter is better in my opinion as they sometimes come packaged with hilariously bad English translations.
But thanks for showing me where I can buy Pi(e) cheaply anyways.

I've had a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to multi-game cartridges. This kicked off in the Atari 2600 days, where the 4-games-in-one carts were released, only the colors were always wrong. Reddimus's complaint about duplicating the same game several times ... it's actually a pretty legit complaint, as I've seen it done myself. Add to that, such releases *usually* don't aim to make a collection of gems that are overwhelmingly good. Instead, they go for stuffing as many games into one cartridge as they can while paying as little money as possible to the people holding the rights to those games. It puts profit way above customer satisfaction. I get enough of that in the 21st Century alone, thank you very much.
