This is missing the "nails" to make it complete, and the palette is wrong for those who want to run it in the original Wolf3D palette. But if you don't mind working with a different palette for the game (and it's really not a bad one), this texture is a good thing to start off with. You'll have to run it in 128x128 mode to get much use out of it.

Yes, I did it myself, but my home-grown "texture generator" did most of the work. Smile

Okay, I guess I need to post the picture that the program used as a base.

The graphics are all vertical lines of four random colors on the surface, and two random colors on the edges. That's honesty all there is to it.

Note also that the program is *extremely* stupid and won't run right if the picture file has any name other than "1.BMP". It also *insists* that your picture file is exactly 320x200, so you'll have to Copy and Paste it into 64x64 or 128x128 BMPs, depending on what you're working with.

Edit: You'll need to use DOS Box (or an OS like WinXP or Win98) to run the Texture Generator program.

That sounds really cumbersome. Though I'm not gonna criticize people for using suboptimal software, considering how long I've only used MS Paint and made translucent layers using only a watermark-making program. (I finally switched to PaintNET when I got Windows 7, and its version of MS Paint turned out to be significantly worse for making pixel art)

The program Is designed simply to save time in the process of making graphics, nothing more. Smile

With my program to help me out, all I do is draw some colored vertical lines in a graphics file, and the program does the rest of the work for me.

Well, the source image already has the lines and gradient on the edges. So what does the program do exactly? Just recolors and adds the noise? It seems like something I could do in paintNET in the time it takes to rename and crop a texture.

The "noise" is very customizable, but it could be that PaintNET does all of these things, too. I can't say Yes or No on that, as I honestly haven't used PaintNET before. The goal was to have the Texture Generator do what I wanted it to do without going through a large number of steps. I never approved of programs that had commonly-used features buried in a bunch of submenus, and most programs of today have such problems. That's why I made the Texture Generator; I wanted to spare myself from such a hassle. The Texture Generator was made to save time, and if you bury commonly-used features in a bunch of submenus, it's not saving you any time - pure and simple. Smile

I like paintNET specifically because it's so simple - I could never get into Gimp or Photoshop, but I liked paintNET because doing simple things is simple in it. I'm also using an older version because it starts up quicker. It's got plenty useful functions, though the noise is not very customizable (maybe it's just a matter of the right plugin though?), so your texture generator could be interesting in that regard.

I'm sure Adam Biser could top my Texture Generator by hacking up his RecolorBMP program. The drawback is - the program wouldn't run in WINE, which is not compatible with Visual BASIC creations, it seems.

I plan it to have a complete GUI and file selection menu in the future, but I'm afraid that's a long way off at this time. Sad

Thanks; some parts of it did require a fair amount of work. Smile The "flashing" of your selected color was something that I knew would help, and I put it in as soon as I could manage. It's the one feature I don't remember seeing in any Windows programs of this type.

Macros would be of a big help here, as it's tedious to select the same exact colors for your file over and over and over again. Again, this is another feature that Adam Biser has had in his RecolorBMP program for a while now. Smile
