Do you tend to play mods continuous (when allowed), or with pistol start on each level?

When you're playing Wolf3D mods - and presuming they are beatable from both pistol start and continuous much like the originals always were - which mode do you prefer to play? Do you carry stuff over from level to level whenever possible (continuous), or do you usually reset yourself to a default pistol/8 ammo/100% health start when it is possible to do so?

I do the later. I firmly believe every level should be played by its own balance, and not influenced by how the level before was finished.

I prefer continuous myself. Making sure all levels are beatable pistol start is extremely important however in the case that the player gets themselves into an impossible situation, saves, and has no choice but to die and restart the level with only a pistol and 8 bullets. A level that isn't possible from pistol start is poorly designed in my opinion. So, I design levels primarily with pistol start in mind, but I play them continuous.

Mostly continuous. Sometimes I like to play continuous until I die, and then continue from pistol start while also trying not to run out of lives.

I usually *choose* continuous, but if I've had a rough ride through a level, I sometimes find it easier and less frustrating to simply get myself killed at the beginning of the level and restart with full health. If you're venturing through an overly difficult level with 3% health at the very beginning - and you have no idea where any of the health items are - the lack of health will get very, very old. Smile

I agree. This is why I try to provide at least a little bit of extra health near the end of each level, so continuous players aren't forced to start the next level in such a desperate situation.
