What type of mod do you generally enjoy more - ones that stay close to the vanilla flavor or ones that try to alter that look and feel?

I suppose it depends on my mood, but I've seen both types done quite well, and I've come back to both types after beating them. Plus there's "in-between" mods where some things are changed but not others. So, where exactly would you draw the line, and what would compel you to keep that line in place? I just simply wouldn't draw the line anywhere. I say - if it's done well, and it's enjoyable, then I'm all for it. Smile

I think it becomes a total conversion when 100% of the id Software resources are replaced. Most recent stuff by Team Raycast for instance are total conversions. Mods that use some id Software resources and some new resources are what I call partial conversions. I agree with you that as long as it is well designed and enjoyable, then both can be just as good.

I like ones that are closer to the original game like Thomas's NOVOWolf, as well as ones that try to be addons to the original game with little to no changes to art besides bosses and some sprites. I like to see people be creative with what they've got from the original game.

I also really like TC's. I really like Team Raycast TC's with their attempts at making as much of the artwork original as possible. Seeing assets from other games modified to fit elsewhere is always pleasant.

However, things like Witching Hour, which are 100% original art and design, seem to be in a legue of their own. That seems to be more than a TC. To me, that is a whole different game, a new game, on the Wolf engine, and I REALLY like seeing stuff like that still being made, and its inspired me greatly.
