Yes, only 6th. place for Kramer in the 10 000.00 m speed skating event was unexpected. But he did win the 5 000.00 m speed skating event. And Netherlands speed skating results are very impressive, you have won most of the events so far. Smile

Norway has 7 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze so far. In gold medal count that is second to Germany with 9 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze. Norway leads the total medal count with 22 medals.

Edit: Germany just won another silver medal in Ladies Skeleton event. That makes 9 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze for Germany so far. Total medal count: 17 medals.

I could have continued about today's events in the 2018 Winter Olympics. Smile

But I won't! Laughing

The overall interest for winter sports among Wolfers does not seem to be exactly high. Smile

My sole interest is in ski jumping. Poland has five jumpers capable of finishing competitions in the top three, including the now-crowned oldest olympic champion in history. The large hill gold medal and today's team bronze medal are very good, but I was quietly hoping for more. Stoch, Hula and Żyła will likely be too old to claim top places in four years, so Pyongchang was their last chance for olympic glory. There are no replacements in sight. Our B and youth teams are in shambles. Talented athletes, very successful in junior competitions, now underperform horribly. I'm worried things might really go downhill next year, especially if Kot and Kubacki don't step up a bit.

Well, I think Poland's results in the ski jumping events are very good. Kamil Stoch (gold large hill) and Polish bronze in the team event.

The competition is very tough. Germany and Norway also have several ski jumpers who could very well finish in the top three.

And there are only three men's ski jumping events (if you don't count nordic combined), and one ladies ski jumping event.

That's far less events than most other winter olympic sports.

So congratulations to Poland for great ski jumping achievements. Smile

Ron seems to show an interest in it, at least. Smile

Feel free to post here about the winter sports if you like, you don't seem to be causing any trouble from my POV. Smile

Sports has always been something people topped me at constantly; in high school, I was always picked last as far as schoolmates selecting their players. That is, until the P.E. teacher said they couldn't do that anymore, and I was chosen second-last for the rest of the school year. Laughing I'm not upset about it; I know that neither speed nor physical coordination are my high points. So I tend to just talk about other things instead. Smile

Thank you. Smile

Four teams qualified directly for the ice hockey quarterfinals after the preliminary rounds: Czech Republic, Russia, Canada and Sweden.

Today the other teams had to play through qualifying matches for the quarterfinals.

USA beat Slovakia and will be up against Czech Republic in the quarterfinal.
Norway beat Slovenia and will be up against Russia.
Finland beat Korea and will be up against Canada.
Germany beat Switzerland and will be up against Sweden.

Canada and USA have reach the final in the ladies ice hockey tournament.

Today France won the gold medal in the mixed biathlon relay, ahead of Norway (silver) and Italy (bronze).

In today's nordic combined event Germany won triple (gold, silver and bronze).
Norway's best competitor in the event was right behind them towards the end but couldn't match the Germans and finished in 4th. place.

Earlier today a Canadian couple won the gold medal in the ice dance event. France won the silver medal and USA won the bronze medal.
And in the ladies ski halfpipe event the same three countries won gold, silver and bronze respectively.

Speed skating, Ladies 3000m relay short track: Korea (gold), Italy (silver), Netherlands (bronze).
Speed skating yesterday, Men's 500m: Norway (gold), Korea (silver), China (bronze).

Bobsleigh, yesterday: Canada and Germany shared the gold medal and Latvia won the bronze medal.

Congratulations to all.

The total medal count is at present as follows (six best countries so far):

1. Norway: 11 gold, 10 silver, 8 bronze (total: 29).
2. Germany: 11 gold, 7 silver, 5 bronze (total: 23).
3. Canada: 8 gold, 5 silver, 6 bronze (total: 19).
4. Netherlands: 6 gold, 5 silver, 3 bronze (total: 14).
5. France: 5 gold, 4 silver, 4 bronze (total: 13).
6. USA: 5 gold, 3 silver, 4 bronze (total: 12).

Tune in later for more. Smile

Knowing in what weather the Norwegians live, I am not surprised they are first in these Olympics.

Not yet I'm afraid Ariel. You have seven athletes in the games.

Sebastiano Gastaldi and his sister Nicol Gastaldi have been competing in alpine skiing events but without making the top 30 list so far.
But Sebastiano Gastaldi still has a chance in slalom on Thursday 22.

Matias Schmitt didn't make the finals in Snowboard Slopside, he finished in 24th. place.
But he still has a chance in Snowboard Big Air, starting Wednesday 21.

Steven Williams reached the 1/8 final in Snowboard Cross but didn't make it from there. He finished in 30th. place.

Veronica Maria Ravenna came in 24th. place in Ladies Single Luge.

Your two cross country skiiers, Matias Zuloaga and Maria Cecilia Dominguez, did not make the top 30 list in their events.

All the best,
Poet.
