I hadn't yet turned 20 in the 90's. Judas Priest released 'Painkiller' in the 90's. Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota and Soda Stereo were in their peak in the 90's with albums such as 'La Mosca y la Sopa' and 'Canción Animal'. I got to see Deep Purple live twice in the 90's when Gillan was still unbelievable live. I still had Lorenzo Lamas-like long hair in the 90's; people would say it didn't suit me but still it was cool that I could wear it if I wanted to - I would have probably indulged myself more in that department had I known that the privilege wouldn't last. The X-Files were awesome. SoD/Wolf3D and DOOM blew me and everyone else away in the 90's (does the same still happen with modern games nowadays?).

I hadn't yet had the time to make so many bad decisions in the 90's. And my first kiss was in the 90's. She was really pretty, too.

Those were the days.

But it's great to be alive almost 20 or so years later to cherish the memories... Smile

Cheers,

Ariel

Well I don't miss the 90s, I mean games, music or series like the X-files.

Doom 1 and 2 is still unbelieveable and great nowadays, Wolf3D too. The new Doom game was great, but I don't think that this game did the same as the original Doom back in the 90s.

Also if you ask me, the 90s is still alive nowadays. If you want some nostalgia then you just need to search for it, you will find it. I just do the same with the X-files now (the original 9 seasons) which started with a new season full of nostalgia. Well you got me with music, I don't listen music from the 90s.

I'm not much into anything at all beyond the late 1980s. Yes, Wolf3D is an exception, but the list is otherwise quite small. Be it the music, TV shows, movies, or video games, I'd see products released where the company's focus was one or two things instead of every part of the product as a whole. How many times these days do you see a movie with a solid, memorable script, strong performances, and excellent music? Although there are exceptions, you usually see one or more of these things left out.

Part of what I found so exciting about the 1980s and before was that you didn't know what was going to be the next big thing, and when the "big thing" arrived, you didn't know what it would offer us next. Trends didn't become trends by default; they had exciting things associated with them, and we honestly wanted to invest in them. Even cars were interesting, because the styles of the vehicles still changed as the years went on.

Yes, every decade had its bad points, There was Vietnam in the 1960s, there was more than one gasoline shortage in the 1970s, and the 1980s had - among other things - "New Coke". So I'd be kidding myself to say that any of my favorite decades were perfect. But I still look back on the 1970s and 1980s fondly. Smile

Yes, 80s were...the last good thing. Things were...raw, naive, stars were interesting people by themselves and weren't created and sold as products. Music was good, movies, culture. Mindset. Purity, youth, will to change the world, the wish for heroes....People were dreaming, were creative, people were easy to impress and inspire.
Music-wise there is a facebook video of all the hits from 80s till now - per year. Nothing like the 90s, but 90s had some nice songs too, at least as top hits of the year. After 2000 music went bad, at 2002 started huge downfall, and by 2004 music turned into total trash, nothing after 2004 is worth listening to music-wise, even the top hits of the year.
90s were good for games though, so many classics.

Joshua, on AETV on Monday, June 18 from 7-9 pm, there’s The Untold Story of The 90s Part 1. It’s listed as originally appearing on April 15, 2018, and I don’t know if I’ve already seen this particular one.

Ah the good ol days before all this far left/far right, Politically correct era we call the 2010's... The days of MTV actually showing music, Jackass, Star Trek on multiple tv channels at all times, fiddling with rabbit ears for hours just to watch a show with minimal fuzz, having dirt clog wars outside, kids being kids and actually playing outside. We weren't coddled and given participation trophies..Then 2001 happened and everything started to change.

Political correctness began in the 1990s, as did the "extreme" era. But it seems that didn't go *nearly* far enough to please people. Sad

Truth be told, I'd rather live in the 60's.
When LSD actually helped music artists, when sci- fi movies seemed to be a wee bit more original than those of today and when the Vietnam war was taken seriously.

From what I've been told, the Vietnam War and its effects were always taken seriously. But people's ideas of what motivated the U.S. to join in seem to have changed. It's now believed - at least for the majority - that the U.S. government had personal gain in mind rather than actually "doing the right thing". If anyone presents the argument that joining the war had a chance of strengthening the U.S.'s foreign relations, I won't dispute that. But I don't believe that forcing unwilling, innocent citizens to fight the war was ever a good idea. And history supports my belief.

Possibly. I get the impression that there was more than one reason for him to keep the Americans in Vietnam. It's possible there were even motivations that were never made public ... not by government officials or anyone else. If you get me talking about him much, you'll see I don't think too highly of him. But I'm open to the possibility that he also did things that were simple mistakes rather than selfish, deceitful actions.

Well, I guess it is called the "Vietnam Conflict", but I've learned it as the "Vietnam war".

As far as Vietnam, my Dad's cousin died in Vietnam. We also know somebody in our town who has serious PTSD from Vietnam.

Back on the decades topic, CNN will have a 2000s show at 8 and 9 pm on August 12.
