Playing this for the first time. Apparently based on the engine used in Duke3D, but only has 2 episodes. Mostly features characters with IQs measured in single digits.

So, without the manual, I had no idea that the only way to end the first level is to hit a certain moron with a specific weapon. Kill him instead, and you can never move on.

Once I got the manual, and a walkthrough, it's not bad at all, if you can put up with the onslaught of idiots. I tried to not use the walkthrough unless I really got stuck.

It's certainly the first game I've played where pigs play an important part.

I never got to pass the first level, probably for the reason you described.

The game itself I like much. Very atmospheric, funny, different.

There are at least 4 Redneck games if not 5.

I think you may have described the characters perfectly there. Very Happy

The first Redneck game was often criticized for an unstable game engine that often locked up or crashed. I suspect this wasn't so much because of rushed development, but rather that there were too many graphics cards that played havoc with the game engine. I have no idea how stable the game engine is in DOS Box, so if you've played it through that utility for an extended period of time, I'd like to hear your feedback on how well the game worked for you.

To win the first level, you need to go to the area with some water and docks. As you approach the building to the right, you'll hear Bubba calling out to Leonard (that's you). Enter the building, and it has a small room at each end. Bubba is in the further-away room. You hit him once with the crowbar, and the level ends. Bubba appears in some other levels as well, and you exit with the same manouvre.

Tricob: I initially installed it on win2k, it worked but no sound. Then recently I also installed it on my win98se box, and it has worked perfectly. No crashes, no instability. The video card is the inbuilt Intel one. I don't use Dosbox.

I think the engine can have issues though, in Duke3D I'd sometimes get random crashes, especially on the bonus stage with the rocket. Maybe they didn't test that stage enough.

I'd like to get ahold of the extra Redneck Rampage games sometime.

I happen to be playing this through, too. I've made it to episode 2 now.
I use BMOUSE for better mouse handling.

The game is alright, but I hate that keys can be very difficult to see. They are small and roughly the same color as everything else. Some levels are large and not terribly interesting, but there are moments when things are very well designed.

By the way, the collection is on sale at GOG right now.

I hope you blew up the gas station in an awesome explosion.

In E1L1, you can stop the car if you shoot the driver enough times.

Played a bit more of this. I got as far as the mansion, which is the limit of the walkthrough. However the game didn't end there - it went to an extra level with flying saucers.

This is one tough level, and I don't know how to finish it. I found the "Alien Teats" and blasted all the small saucers, then I was faced with 3 of those powerful mutants (blew them away), and a bunch of skinny coots, and animals.

So I killed the coots, then what? The only thing left besides the animals is the stationary mother ship, and it's very difficult to even hit it. Am I supposed to blow it up? There isn't enough ammo, unless you keeping adding more by cheating. I didn't do that, because I don't know what the object of the level is. The other problem is the game almost always crashes if you walk into the lit area.

Another bug can be found on the J CLUCK level (the one with the chicken factory). There's a switch outside which you can turn off if the frame rate isn't smooth. However if you don't touch the switch, it is treated as "off" even though it's on. If you want it on, turn the switch off then back on. Only with it on, can you see where the chicken heads go, which you need to know.

I finally had enough time to finish E2M1. Found a shortcut that let's one skip all of the key collection on that level.

Tried running the game in DOS mode, and so it didn't crash.

So, on the flying saucers level, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, you're supposed to go to the centre of the lit-up area, then you're transported into the mother ship. Inside, there's one enemy, a Vixen. I killed it with the weapon I reserve for them (the circular saw).

After that, the game ends. As to what happened to rescuing Bessie the pig, that sort of got lost. You get a picture of Leonard and Bubba. Pressing space makes the game start over.

On the flying saucers level, you can drown the pigs. When you see one, hit it once with the crowbar. It will start chasing and attacking you. Go over to the lake, and it will fall in, and be unable to escape.
